MY Thoughts about making art
Art is not a contest (even though there are art contests).
Being obsessed with "being best" in an art class is much like being determined to have the best thumbprint.
When you see something that looks like art, try to find out what the artist had in mind when the piece was made. Ask the artist to tell you about the piece. You may be wonderfully surprised by the answer.
If you feel suddenly more playful or youthful after seeing a kid's artwork, go ahead and grab a piece of paper and start doodling. Remember, art is what happens when we stop worrying about always being right.
Art is many things, but one of the biggest, most important things is play...the kind of play that is at the heart of fun and inseperable from real learning.
