responsibility code for kids

grombots all.jpg

This version of the Responsibility Code for Kids was created by NSAA, PSIA-AASI and Smartful Kids to be easy for kids to understand and remember.

Why Promote the Responsibility Code?

• Code-smart skiers and riders are a vital part of creating a safer mountain experience that all guests want to return to.

• Beginner conversion rates are increased when new skiers feel safer on the snow. When the new skier is a child, that's also especially important to their parents.

• Help young learners develop safe behavior from their very first day and throughout their skiing or riding adventures in the years to come.

An effective resource for instructors, mountain safety,

and risk management professionals.

These 24 x 30 inch .06 styrene "Do You Know the Code?"signs are the perfect way to create important conversations and connections between instructors and young students while indoors for a break or to eat a meal,or strategically placed in outdoor locations.

Ask Two Important Questions

"What does that mean to you?" and "Why do you think that's important?" are two very helpful questions to explore with little learners. After a day of lessons parents frequently ask their children two questions, "Did you have fun?" and, "What did you learn?" When kids include safety in their answers, parents are always impressed — and resort loyalty builds.

Kids love robots, and the ethnic-neutral Grombots are fun way to combine playful images with important messages.

Check out the set of corresponding slope signs.

These weather-resistant styrene signs are easily mounted to any surface.

"Children of all ages need to feel safe and secure before productive learning will occur." (PSIA-AASI Children's Alpine Teaching Handbook, pg. 8)

These durable slope mesh 36 inches x 90 inches hill signs are made of 30/70 vinyl (30% blow through for wind) or the same rugged material used for Kinderlift vests. They come hemmed with grommets for strength and easy set up. Custom sizes are also available upon request.

Kid-friendly edutainment

Each hill sign features one of the Responsibility Code for Kids points and a fun joke—but the answer is found on another sign. Time for some all important mileage and exploration!

Talk about "What does that mean to you?" and "Why do you think it's important?" and then go practice the students' understanding while you search for the next sign. Time for some all important mileage and exploration!

Place the Grombots out on the first runs new skiers are most likely to encounter—green and first easy blue. Instructors, especially those new to the profession, will have a ready to use resource that provides practice opportunities for all of the key aspects of a great lesson: Be nice. Be safe. Have fun. Maybe learn something.

Code-smart kids with big smiles

By putting the signs in strategic locations, instructors (or parents) can create a code-centered learning adventure that also adds some new jokes to the kids' humor banks, and jokes are valuable currency to kids!

Small enough to be easily set up and taken down quickly by one or two set up savvy resort staff members. Resort branding can be added for $50.00 one-time fee.

Want a sample of the mesh material? Just send us an email!

*PDAS for the newest learners (and instructors)

*For professional ski and snowboard instructors, PDAS means Play, Drill, Adventure, and Summary. Play is about fun and connection — connection to ideas as well as people. Drill, or practice, provides experiences, especially physical experiences, that help anchor new ideas. Adventure is something that requires mileage.

An adventure with a purpose creates an especially memorable experience. Summary is our chance to review what we learned, why we learned it, and talk a bit about what comes next.

Before new skiers and riders are turned loose to explore entire mountain, having a solid understanding of the Responsibility Code is a must. The Grombots provide a playful, memorable way to connect technical skills with mountain safety.
